The Pokémon Company has released new details and footage of the second instalment of the Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass, among many other new revelations and updates.

Crown Tundra Release Date Revealed

The Crown Tundra expansion for Pokémon Sword and Shield will be released on October 22.

The new snow-swept region will focus on the exploration of Pokémon Dens, where players will be able to encounter not only new Legendary Pokémon, but also every Legendary Pokémon from previous generations, as well as new forms of the three mythical bird Pokemon – Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres.

Early footage shows that players will be able to work together in teams of four in these Dynamax Adventures to explore Pokémon Dens, battling different types of wild Dynamax Pokémon before encountering the legendary beasts.

A Star-Studded Tournament

In addition to this, the new Galarian Star Tournament will be open to players once exploration of the Crown Tundra area is complete.

The new in-game tournament format will allow trainers to pair up with rivals and gym leaders that they have met on their adventures throughout Galar (including the previous Expansion Pass – the Isle of Armor) in 2v2 battles.

The tournament will show players a new side to these characters that wasn’t seen before in the original adventure.

A Bundle Of Fun

For players yet to embark on their Galar adventure, The Pokémon Company also revealed that it will be releasing ‘all-in-one’ bundled versions of Pokémon Sword and Shield with both Expansion Passes included, on November 6.

A price for the bundle has yet to be revealed.

Ash Ketchum’s Iconic Caps

To celebrate the release of the Crown Tundra DLC, the Pokémon Company will be gifting players with Special Pikachu sporting anime protagonist Ash Ketchum’s iconic hats, which can be obtained through passwords that are due to be released in “various places” in the coming days.

The passwords for two of these Pikachu are already available along with instructions for how to redeem these password on the Pokémon Company website.

Linking capabilities between these two games should be set up before the end of 2020, the Pokémon Company said.

Telltale Games Sells Key Assets & Intellectual Properties To LCG Entertainment

Telltale Games, the maker of some of the more well-known interactive story titles, announced this week that LCG Entertainment purchased the defunct studio’s key assets, trademarks, technology, and select intellectual properties.

It is understood that LCG Entertainment intends to re-release select games from the studio’s back catalog, and develope new games in some of the company’s best-selling brands.

Telltale Games has produced a number of best-selling game series, including The Walking Dead, Batman: The Telltale Series, The Wolf Among Us, and Tales from the Borderlands.

The purchase, led by Jamie Ottilie and Brian Waddle, was made possible by a pool of investors and advisors comprised of well-known names in the games industry, and several additional partners.

“All of us were big fans of the games Telltale created, as we strongly believe in games as a storytelling medium and nobody did it better.”

“Even now, when you see a game with strong narrative, it’s always compared to Telltale, so it’s no surprise that players and industry colleagues alike mourned the studio’s closure. We believe there is still so much life to the brand and its franchises, and we look forward to building upon the company’s storytelling legacy.”

Jamie Ottilie, CEO of the new Telltale Games.

The ‘new’ Telltale Games will headquartered in Malibu with a satellite office in Corte Madera, California, where Ottilie and Waddle will handle day-to-day operations.

The group confirmed that it has hired or contracted key talent from the original company.

The new company will be based on a streamlined structure with plans for strategic growth and a focus on its core and new IP’s.

“There is still a huge fanbase of Telltale players and that’s one of the main reasons we decided to make this investment.”

“It’s hard to see your favourite games disappear or not get the sequels they deserve, so we thank everyone for their patience and support. We’ve got some exciting things to share soon. We’ll try not to keep them waiting too long, but we think fans will be pleased.”

Brian Waddle, chief revenue officer for the new Telltale Games.

Ireland Opens Its First-Ever Esports Research Lab

The University of Limerick (UL) has announced Ireland’s first-ever esports research lab at Lero, the Irish Software Research Centre.

Researchers at the new lab at UL will conduct studies designed to boost performance of international amateur and professional esports players.

Dr Mark Campbell, director of the Lero esports research lab, said the move came about as the industry has continued to grow massively.

“This is a massive growth sector. Top professional players can earn millions of dollars per annum. However, unlike other professional sports, there has been very little application of sports science to the participants to date.”

“Our research lab will combine health science and computing to identify what makes a great player. For example, we will work on psychometric software incorporating eye tracking and brain imaging to measure the neural, cognitive and physical attributes of the most effective players.”

He also addressed the issue of gender balance in the industry, highlighting research that shows that this is a sport in which female players can compete on equal terms with their male counterparts.

“While playing video games does have a male image there is no physical benefit for either sex unlike many traditional sports such as rugby.

“In esports, although there are far fewer female players, competitions are not organised by gender, so men and women compete against each other on equal terms.”

The announcement was made just as the world has begun to see how lucrative esports can be.

At last month’s Fortnite World Cup in New York, U.S. teenager Kyle ‘Bugha’ Giersdorf, 16, won $3 million.

Dublin teenager Joshua Juliano, 17, took home $50,000 from the same event.

Last year prize money from esports events exceeded $160 million (with a single event reaching $25 million alone).

“Esports represent a rapidly growing billion-dollar global industry which is using innovation to push the boundaries of technology.”

“This new Lero SFI Research Centre lab will help bring about greater levels of international visibility to the games industry, solidifying expertise across Irish third level institutions and industry.”

Professor Mark Ferguson, Director General of Science Foundation Ireland and Chief Scientific Adviser to the Government of Ireland

Prof. Conor Ryan, Lero researcher at UL added that the program will worth with both amateur and professional players, focusing on increasing elements like motor skills, peripheral vision and aural range.

“The findings will be of benefit to players, managers and sponsors of professional esports teams and could contribute to the design of future computer peripherals,” he said.

World Of Warcraft Classic Returns

World of Warcraft Classic has gone live as of yesterday, included at no additional cost as part of everyone’s WoW subscription globally, allowing people to experience Azeroth as it was in its earliest days.

Blizzard said that it is an authentic re-creation of the pre-expansion game in its most feature-complete state, as it was during 2006’s “Drums of War” update (patch 1.12.0).

Source: Blizzard

“It’s been a long time coming, but we’re overjoyed to welcome our friends new and old to classic Azeroth.

The community’s excitement is infectious and deeply motivating—it’s clear they’re as thrilled as we are to relive the World of Warcraft Classic experience.

“We look forward to rediscovering its wonders and challenges together with them, starting today.”

J. Allen Brack, President of Blizzard Entertainment

World of Warcraft Classic, Blizzard says, is more ‘unrelenting and demanding of self-direction from players than today’s version of the game’.

Activities like raids and dungeon runs must be organised collectively by players on the same realm (the Alliance or the Horde), with the toughest challenges requiring 40 coordinated and committed souls to surmount.

The return of World of Warcraft Classic marks the 15th anniversary of WoW, with celebrations planned for the coming months.

The festivities will begin with an in-game event in World of Warcraft’s latest expansion, Battle for Azeroth, in which max-level players can participate in a special raid that brings together some of the mightiest raid bosses in WoW’s history.

Players who complete the raid will be awarded the Obsidian Worldbreaker mount, inspired by the dreaded Dragon Aspect Deathwing the Destroyer.

New Prologue Footage Gives Players A Glimpse Into Marvel’s Avengers: A-Day Mechanics

The new trailer for Marvel’s Avengers: A-Day showed off some of the gameplay mechanics players can expect to see upon launch.

The new trailer covers gameplay from A-Day’s prologue, where the Avengers must defend San Franciso from a sudden attack.

Gameplay footage gives glimpses of each of the playable characters (Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, and Black Widow) as they battle along Golden Gate Bridge.

Marvel’s Avengers: A-Day Prologue Gameplay Footage [EN PEGI]

Thor’s combat style with Mjolnir has an air of Kratos in God of War, but with the ability to fly.

Iron Man is also able to fight well on both the ground and the air, although his arial dominance focuses on precision and power shots – rather than through agility and versatility which he has been known to.

The next two introductions are some of the more plain fighting styles, but both the Hulk’s destructive fighting style and mobility are seen in the gameplay, as well as Captain America’s skill in hand-to-hand combat.

The final Avenger on the ticket, Black Widow, gets to show off her skills against the Prologue’s boss, Taskmaster.

Black Widow uses her agility and high-tech spy gear (even turning herself invisible) to triumph over him before ensuring his capture.

However, we then see the Helicarrier explode, with Captain America and a host of civilians aboard, forcing players to wait until 15th May 2020 to find out what happens next.
