The Pokémon Company has released new details and footage of the second instalment of the Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass, among many other new revelations and updates.
Crown Tundra Release Date Revealed
The Crown Tundra expansion for Pokémon Sword and Shield will be released on October 22.
The new snow-swept region will focus on the exploration of Pokémon Dens, where players will be able to encounter not only new Legendary Pokémon, but also every Legendary Pokémon from previous generations, as well as new forms of the three mythical bird Pokemon – Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres.
Early footage shows that players will be able to work together in teams of four in these Dynamax Adventures to explore Pokémon Dens, battling different types of wild Dynamax Pokémon before encountering the legendary beasts.
A Star-Studded Tournament
In addition to this, the new Galarian Star Tournament will be open to players once exploration of the Crown Tundra area is complete.
The new in-game tournament format will allow trainers to pair up with rivals and gym leaders that they have met on their adventures throughout Galar (including the previous Expansion Pass – the Isle of Armor) in 2v2 battles.
The tournament will show players a new side to these characters that wasn’t seen before in the original adventure.
A Bundle Of Fun
For players yet to embark on their Galar adventure, The Pokémon Company also revealed that it will be releasing ‘all-in-one’ bundled versions of Pokémon Sword and Shield with both Expansion Passes included, on November 6.
A price for the bundle has yet to be revealed.
Ash Ketchum’s Iconic Caps
To celebrate the release of the Crown Tundra DLC, the Pokémon Company will be gifting players with Special Pikachu sporting anime protagonist Ash Ketchum’s iconic hats, which can be obtained through passwords that are due to be released in “various places” in the coming days.
The passwords for two of these Pikachu are already available along with instructions for how to redeem these password on the Pokémon Company website.

Pokémon Go Home
In addition to all this news, the Pokémon Company also revealed an update to Pokémon Home which will allow players to transfer Pokémon from the mobile app, Pokémon GO, to Pokémon Sword and Shield though Pokémon Home.
Transferring Pokémon from Pokémon GO to Pokémon Sword and Shield will grant players a Mystery Box in the mobile game, which will cause the legendary Pokémon Meltan to appear on the map in the app, as well as a Mystery Gift in Pokémon Home containing a special Melmetal with the ability to Gigantamax.
Linking capabilities between these two games should be set up before the end of 2020, the Pokémon Company said.
